Worth knowing

Two things that catch people out

Protected trees and conservation areas

A Tree Preservation Order means the council has to give consent before most work can be carried out, and the same applies to nearly any tree in a conservation area. It is not a reason not to do the work, it just means there is a form and a waiting period first. Doing the work without consent is an offence, so it is worth checking. If you are not sure whether your tree is covered, ask us and we will look into it.

Nesting birds

It is an offence to damage or destroy an active nest, which in practice means the main nesting season, roughly March to August, needs care. Work can still go ahead, but the tree gets checked first and occasionally a job has to wait. Anyone who tells you the season makes no difference is not being straight with you.
